Chris Wagner | Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Wagner has spent more than 25 years marketing pharmaceutical products and building biotechnology companies. Mr. Wagner worked with Eli Lilly for 10 years, rising to Global Team Leader, where he helped develop and commercialize 15 biologic and small molecule products. Mr. Wagner left Eli Lilly to join Aspreva Pharmaceuticals Inc. as Vice President, Business Development and Global Marketing. During his five years at Aspreva, the company’s valuation increased from $2 million to $1 billion; it was later acquired by Galenica. Mr. Wagner most recently served as Chairman, President and CEO of Contextual Genomics Inc, a molecular bioinformatics company that has worked with AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Sanofi to develop genomic cancer diagnostic products. He has a BSc in organic chemistry from the University of British Columbia and completed executive programs in finance and marketing research at Wharton Business School and Kellogg School of Management.
Robert C. Hill, CPA | Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Hill brings more than 20 years of accounting, finance, and senior leadership experience to Emerald as a seasoned manager of private and publicly traded technology and financial services businesses in Canada, USA, and Asia. Prior to joining Emerald, Mr. Hill was the Chief Financial Officer of Tokyo-based Minkabu, a technology company advancing sophisticated stock market intelligence and financial data solutions. Before that, he held financial leadership positions at Haywood Securities in Vancouver, Vignette Corp. and Trilogy Software in Austin, Texas. Mr. Hill earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of British Columbia and his certification from the Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia, Canada while articling with KPMG LLP.
Paul Dillman | Vice President, Marketing and Sales
Mr. Dillman brings more than 30 years of experience in global marketing, sales, and general management to Emerald. Mr. Dillman worked with Kraft Foods for 7 years, serving as Director of Strategic Planning and later General Manager of Kraft Korea. Joining Philip Morris International as Area Director, he spent 5 years there with responsibility for managing over 425 employees in packaging and licensing. He later became Deputy Group Marketing Director at Coca-Cola, responsible for marketing and sales from Korea to Indonesia and leading Centers of Excellence across the region. Mr. Dillman earned a Bachelor of Science from West Point (United States Military Academy) and a Master of Science in Systems Management from the University of Southern California.
Bin Huang, PhD, MBA | President, Emerald Health Therapeutics Canada
Dr. Huang is an executive leader with over 30 years of experience in life sciences. Her career began with Allelix Crop Technologies, where she spent six years as a plant research scientist. For a number of years, Dr. Huang was the President and CEO of Cytovax Biotechnologies, a Canadian biotechnology company. Following that, she led WEX Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of publicly listed CK Life Sciences International (Holdings) Inc., as President and CEO. Dr. Huang has a PhD in Plant Cell Biology from the University of East Anglia, UK and an MBA from the University of Toronto.
Frey Garabagi, PhD | Vice President, Research
Dr. Garabagi is a research scientist and inventor in the field of plant molecular genetics and medical biotechnology. Dr. Garabagi has 10 years of postdoctoral research experience from the University of Guelph, during which he developed intellectual property (IP) on the production of plant-derived Herceptin, a therapeutic monoclonal antibody used in the treatment of breast cancer. He also has extensive experience in development of DNA-based techniques for improving insect pest management strategies. He is a member of the International Association for Plant Biotechnology and the Canadian Society of Plant Biologists. He has published many scientific papers and books relating to plants and holds a PhD in Molecular Genetics from the University of Guelph.
Michael Bierman | Vice President, Operations
Mr. Bierman has more than 25 years of experience in manufacturing management, product development, and marketing; from commodity products to fast moving consumer goods. Prior to joining Emerald, Mr. Bierman was the divisional controller for Tolko Industries and then served as the general manager of Lighthouse Brewing Company. Mr. Bierman earned a diploma in accounting and is a certified management accountant.
Rebecca Wong | Vice President, Quality Affairs
Ms. Wong has over 25 years of managerial experience in quality assurance and quality control ranging from preclinical, clinical, and commercial phases for pharmaceuticals, genetically engineered products, and medical devices. Before joining Emerald, she was the Executive Director of Quality Assurance at Novelion Therapeutics (formerly QLT Inc.), where she led the strategy for quality assurance, equipment validation, compliance auditing, document management, and GxP training. She previously worked for life science companies including MDS Nordion, Cangene Corporation, and Biomira Inc. Ms. Wong earned a B.Sc. (Specialization Microbiology) from the University of Alberta.
Traviss Graham | Vice President, Production
Mr. Graham is the Master Grower of Emerald Health Botanicals, responsible for the medical cannabis growing facility in Victoria, BC and all of the company’s plant production. He has been producing medical cannabis since the inception of the MMAR (Marihuana Medical Access Regulations) program in 2001. His experience encompasses all aspects of production, including large and small plant types, soil and hydroponic environments, and indoor and outdoor greenhouse enclosures. For several years, Mr. Graham has been a professional consultant in cannabis production and grow room design.
