Are your products irradiated?

Dried cannabis and cannabis oils that are produced at Emerald are not subjected to irradiation. Our products have passed third party testing and analysis for potency and lack of contaminants on a batch by batch basis. Explore Emerald’s product range. Why do the THC and CBD levels change even if the strain name is the same?

There are a variety of factors that can result in a small varying percentage change from batch to batch. This means a strain that had 7% THC one time might have a slightly higher or lower percentage in a future batch. We pride ourselves on our rigorous testing to provide patients with the most information possible to help you make your purchasing decision. How does Emerald dry and cure your medical cannabis?

Our trimmed flowers are dried slowly on screens and hung branches within a controlled environment that includes fans and dehumidifiers. It can take seven to ten days to dry and another week of curing to achieve the ideal moisture content of 10% to 12%, giving our cannabis a uniformly dry texture and perfect aroma. Does Emerald use pesticides?

Is my original Medical Document required?

Although your application form may be submitted via fax, email, or mail, Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR) requires all applicants to submit their original Medical Document via mail. The only exception is having your original Medical Document and Registration Document sent directly through your physician or nurse practitioner by secure fax at 1.800.757.3536.

If my prescription is expired, am I still ok if I get stopped by law enforcement?

No. Your Emerald patient label is only valid during the exact same time frame that your medical document is valid. To prevent expiration and avoid a renewal gap, please make sure you renew your medical document with your physician as soon as possible. To find a physician click here.

What happens if I wish to cancel my registration?

If you change your mind and no longer want to proceed with the registration, please notify us as soon as possible. Emerald will return your paperwork to you at your request if you have not yet been fully registered and approved. If your medical document was faxed, unfortunately we cannot return it to you. If you have already been registered and approved with us, Emerald is required to keep the original Medical Document, and we will send you confirmation of your cancellation.

If I am already a registered patient, how do I update my personal information?

To change your personal information after registration has been completed, you must complete a Request for Registration Amendment. The amendment document can be found in the Forms section when you are logged in. Please print the document and complete it in full. Once I've completed my forms, how long does the registration process take?

Once we receive your completed forms our Client Care team will begin the registration process. This includes reviewing the forms and ensuring all of the documentation is fully completed and meets Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR) standards. Next, we contact your physician or nurse practitioner to validate your information, as required by Health Canada. At this point it's up to your physician or nurse practitioner to respond to our inquiries before we can conclude the registration process. This is why some patients take longer to register than others, some taking a few hours and others up to a several business days. How do I register and get approved to buy medical cannabis?

To fully comply with Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR), Emerald has to receive and verify specific documents before registering and approving a patient. To start the process, fill out the application form available for download. Mail the application to us along with your fully completed and valid medical document. What are the new regulations for accessing medical marijuana in Canada?

While we wait for the upcoming legalization changes to be announced, we are still operating under the ACMPR (Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations) which went into effect on August 24, 2016. How long does the renewal process take?

After we receive your Medical Document and new Registration form we will begin processing your documents as quickly as possible. The process is exactly the same as the first time you registered, as we must verify your Medical Document with your physician or nurse practitioner and process your information before activating your renewal. Does signing up on the Emerald website make me a "Registered" patient?

No. Signing up on our website is only the first step in the registration process. Legally, you become a registered patient under the Health Canada Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR) guidelines after you receive approval notification that the Medical Document and Emerald Registration form has been submitted and approved. How do I renew with Emerald when my prescription expires?

Your prescription is valid only during a specific time period provided by your physician. When your prescription expires you will need to complete a new registration application and submit a new, original medical document. To start the renewal process, please click here.

Will Emerald accept medical cannabis prescriptions from physicians who use their own medical documentation?

Can my Medical Documents be emailed for renewal?

There are only two ways to send your Medical Document for renewal. Due to Health Canada regulations, Emerald is required to only accept an original Medical Documents via mail (not email) from patients. Emerald suggests contacting Health Canada directly with any questions concerning the validity of your MMAR license. Who is the "Responsible Individual" referring to in the Emerald registration form?

According to Health Canada regulations, the Responsible Individual is someone other than the actual patient applying for use of medical cannabis. This person may assist the applicant in all areas of their registration with Emerald and is to be held responsible for the applying patient and can be a spouse or partner, parent, sibling or child (of legal age), etc. The Responsible Individual section of the application form must be completed. Does my physician have to complete a new or separate medical document specifically for prescribing cannabis oils?

No. The amount of dried cannabis expressed grams permitted on a daily basis (grams/day) by your physician will translate directly into your cannabis oil order. For example, if your physician suggests ordering cannabis oil in lieu of your previous dried medical cannabis dosage, an equivalency factor will be used with your active prescription to determine the amount of cannabis oil to be dosed and purchased. What is the ACMPR?

An acronym for the Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations, ACMPR are the most recent regulations regarding medical marijuana which went into effect August 24, 2016. Can I register using my pre-existing Authorization to Possess (ATP) from Health Canada?

Unfortunately, no. Health Canada restricts licensed producers from accepting an Authorization to Possess (ATP) in lieu of having a medical document. How do I access medical cannabis and get a prescription in Canada?

Through the Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR), Canadian residents may access medical cannabis from Emerald - a federally licensed producer. Due to this, you must acquire a Medical Document (section 130) - which is similar to a prescription - from your doctor or health care practitioner. Is it possible to register with multiple licensed producers of medical cannabis?

Yes. The ACMPR (Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations) guidelines allow you to register with more than one licensed producer. However, in order for the medical documents to be valid, you must use separate, original medical documentation for each licensed producer. Can I travel with my medical cannabis?

You are allowed to travel within Canada as long as you keep your prescription documentation with you at all times. Patients are allowed to carry 30 times their daily limit - up to 150g - within Canada. All international travel with medical cannabis is strictly prohibited. Can I mix two different medical cannabis products?

When does medical cannabis expire?

Although researchers have proven that the THC in cannabis degrades over time, there is no data yet to suggest that the product has a firm expiration date. Emerald suggests that you store your medical cannabis in a cool, dark location. How much medical cannabis am I legally allowed to carry?

What do I do if I have a reaction to my prescribed medical cannabis?

Your actions should directly reflect the severity of your reaction. If severe, please call 911 or go to the nearest hospital. If your reaction is mild, contact your physician as soon as possible. Either way, please let your physician know about your reaction.

What is the average daily dose of medical cannabis?

If I get stopped by law enforcement what is my proof to legally carry medical marijuana?

Your proof to legally possess your medical marijuana is the patient label affixed to each immediate package of your medical cannabis (similar to other medications). Your patient label contains all of your relevant information as well as the contact information to the licenced producer should law enforcement want to call and confirm your registration. Please ensure you carry this documentation with you at all times when you are in possession of your medication.

What documentation do I use as proof that I'm allowed to possess medical cannabis?

In order to comply with the ACMPR (Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations) and prove to authorities you're legally allowed to possess medical marijuana, it is necessary to keep your patient label or container the medicine came in with you at all times.

Is it okay to drive after using medical cannabis?

Emerald strongly advises that patients avoid driving motor vehicle or any sort of heavy machinery while under the influence of medical cannabis as there are legal and safety implications.

How do I use medical cannabis and does it have to be smoked?

Emerald offers two types of medical cannabis, dried cannabis and cannabis oils. Dried cannabis can be consumed by smoking or vaporizing (vaping). Vaping uses an external heating element to achieve an ideal temperature that is hot enough to release the active ingredients without generating any smoke. Emerald's cannabis oils are ingested orally either directly or after being added as an ingredient to a food item. Orally consuming cannabis results in a more delayed onset time, with the effects often being stronger and longer-lasting.

No. ACMPR regulations do not allow for licensed producers to operate any type of storefront selling cannabis, making it impossible for our patients to retrieve their medicine from us directly. How much medical cannabis can I order?

How often can I order medical cannabis from Emerald?

You may order as frequently as you'd like, so long as you never exceed your monthly allowance (of 30x your daily quantity) in any rolling 30-day period. Health Canada only allows a maximum of 150 grams to be possessed by a single person at any given time. Emerald aims to ships orders out of facility within one business day. Your package will usually arrive one to two business days later. Exceptions include when a patient lives in a remote delivery area.

Can I split my prescription to purchase multiple strains at one time?

Yes. Within your monthly allowed amount, you may purchase different strains that fit within your prescription. For example, if your physician recommends using strains below 14% THC, you may try different strains that meet those guidelines. As a veteran, am I eligible for coverage through Veteran Affairs?

Veterans Affairs Canada does provide coverage for medical marijuana, although the eligibility for coverage varies on a case by case basis. Emerald will work directly with Veteran Affairs, submitting the necessary documents required, ensuring you have coverage and arranging direct billing. Does Emerald charge sales tax?

As per Revenue Canada, your medical cannabis is subject to taxation, depending on the province in which you reside. This means the tax you are charged is based on the tax rate in your specific province. Remember to keep your invoices for claiming on your income tax.

Is medical marijuana eligible as an income tax medical expense?

Yes. You may claim your sales receipts from your medical cannabis on your income taxes. Please ensure you keep the receipts sent to you with your product for this purpose.

Emerald accepts most credit cards, pre-paid credit cards and credit card gift cards, including Visa, Mastercard, Visa Debit, Visa Gift Card. We also accept both e-transfer and cheques.
